Have you ever had a moment that terrified you, but you knew without a doubt that it was God calling you to step out in faith? I certainly have. There are times in our lives that God calls us to step up and go to the next level- to stretch ourselves and our faith in Him. If you do, He will meet you every time.
Needing a Change
About 25 years ago, I had a very profound experience with God calling me to step out in faith. I was very shy and very much an introvert. I was also at a time in my life where I needed a change so I was looking at different job opportunities. Because of this, I got a list of jobs – paid and missions work – and began to look through them There were over 500 jobs listed. However, there was only one that kept drawing me back to do more research.
It was a Christian Repertory Theater Company and I decided to call them. My heart felt like it was going to beat right out of my chest and my palms were all sweaty. Two things stuck out about the job that I had always been interested in but too afraid to pursue before this moment. The first was I had always wanted to act and the second I had always wanted to travel. This combined both interests in one job. It was a company called Covenant Players.
Step Out in Faith
As I talked to their contact over the phone, I got more and more excited and nervous at the same time. It was one of those moments when I knew that this was going to be so far outside my comfort zone that the only way to move forward was to close my eyes and step out in faith. It was kind of like the painting by the same name. I felt like I was blindfolded on the top of the cliff and just trusting that God would catch me as I stepped off.

It didn’t take long for me to make the decision to go for it. So, I sold everything I had that I knew I wouldn’t need over the next few months and got ready for the adventure of a lifetime.
The Great Adventure
In August of 1996, my mom drove me to the airport for the flight to southern California. At the other end, a couple from South Africa picked me and a couple of other people up and took us to their training facility at a local church. As I entered the gymnasium, which had a raised stage at one end, several hundred people greeted us with applause and cheers for at least five minutes. Remember how I said that was naturally introverted and extremely shy? Well, needless to say, I was more than a little bit overwhelmed. I felt my heart beating fast and my face getting all hot and red.
Finally, we were all able to sit down for a few minutes, and then we had to get on stage and introduce ourselves to the founder of Covenant Players and everyone in that room. I was terrified. I was the type of person in high school that would go to all the school plays and dreams about being on stage. But, I would sit in the back of the auditorium afraid of my own dreams. Yet, here I was, on stage feeling like I could hardly breathe.
The first day was a whirlwind and everyone was very kind and welcoming. Over the first week, I had to do three one-act plays. I thought surely everyone could see me shaking, but I got through it. During the next three years, there was one adventure and test of faith after another. I will be sharing some of those experiences as well.

My Challenge to You
Answering the call of God to step out in faith, changed my life forever. There were ups and downs, but through it all, God showed me that He is indeed faithful. When we step out in faith, He honors that faith and will meet you wherever you are.
