According to God’s Word, we are significant. We are so significant to Him that He sent Jesus to die for our sins in order to restore our relationship with Him. I never cease to be amazed and humbled at the depth of His love.
We Are Significant
One of the definitions of “significant” is:
“sufficiently great or important to be worthy of attention; noteworthy.”
Definition from Oxford Languages
If God didn’t think that we were significant He never would have created us in the first place. And, He wouldn’t have sent Jesus to die for our sins. The depth of God’s love is never-ending.
He not only forgave our sins by taking our place on the cross and thereby restoring our relationship with Him, but He also wants to use us to help brings others into the Kingdom of God. He has a purpose for our lives. God has a specific purpose for each one of us.
When we don’t base our identity and self-worth on God’s Word then it’s very hard to see that purpose much less walk in it.
Consequences of False Belief Systems
I based my self-worth and identity on how well I performed, how perfect I was, and on other people’s opinions. When we struggle with false belief systems and have low self-worth, it’s easy to feel like we are not very significant. Usually, that’s when we feel pretty small and worthless. At least, that’s how I often felt.
However, deep inside we all want to feel significant. We can do that by choosing to believe what God’s Word says about who we are, about our significance and the about the purpose of God for our lives.
Scriptures About Significance
There are a number of scripture verses that speak to our significance including the following:
“We are the salt of the earth . But if the salt loses itssaltiness, how shall it be made salty? it is from then on good for nothing but to be thrown out and to be trampled underfood by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do men light a candle and put it under a basket, but on a candlestick. And it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 5:13-16 MEV
“You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that the Father may give you whatever you ask Him in My name.”
John 15:16 MEV
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts 1:8 MEV
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, so that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10 MEV
Additionally, Jesus says:
“Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.’”
Matthew 22: 37-40 MEV
Conclusion
These are only a few of the many scriptures that speak about our significance to God. We are significant to God and we have a purpose. When you start to doubt your own significance, remember to look to God’s Word and remember how much He loves you. Remember His promises.
Additionally, let’s let our light shine today and be an encouragement to someone else today. You never know what someone else is going through and you never know how much a little kindness might mean to them.
