1 Corinthians 10: 13-Each Test Is An Opportunity

1 Corinthians 10_13 Each Test is an Opportunity

I love 1 Corinthians 10: 13 because it reminds me that God has my back no matter what I am facing. Today, I want to talk about how each test is an opportunity to show our faith. Above all, we all have trials and tribulations and temptations in this life, but we always have a choice as to how to react in the midst of them.

Also, today’s devotion is part of a series that I have taken from my guided prayer journal Discover Your True Identity: A 52 Week Guided Prayer Journal.

1 Corinthians 10: 13

In 1 Corinthians 10: 13 God tells us that He won’t let us be tempted beyond what we can bear and that He will always provide a way out.

Also, the Passion Translation says it a little different:

“We all experience times of testing, which is normal for every human being. But God will be faithful to you. … And each test is an opportunity to trust Him more, for along with every trial God has provided for you a way of escape that will bring you out of it victoriously.”

1 Corinthians 10:13 TPT

Sometimes, all we can see is the darkness or the problem. We aren’t able to see the way that God does. I guess that’s where faith comes in.

God Won’t Let You Be Tempted Beyond What You Can Bear

Secondly, what temptations has God helped you to endure and/or escape from?

Can you bear the test or temptation better knowing that he won’t let you be tempted beyond what you can bear?

By renewing our mind through God’s Word we can understand God’s will for our lives and hold up under times of testing and trials.

1 Corinthians 10: 13-Each Test Is An Opportunity
Romans 12:2

God’s Word is a weapon as it says in Ephesians 6:

“take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”

Ephesians 6:17 MEV

The word of God is our weapon to help us through any test or temptation or circumstance.

Each Test is An Opportunity to Trust Him More

Jesus died to bring us into right relationship with Him and we are his children not just forgiven sinners. We all have a choice with regard to how we react to different circumstances. We can choose to trust God or we can choose anger, self-pity, fear and the like.

I know God loves me unconditionally and is already working things for my good (Romans 8:28).

God Always Provides a Way of Escape

God always provides a way of escape and for us to be victorious.

I recently reread a book called “In the Footsteps of Jesus”– it is the story about Bruce Marchiano and what it was like to portray Jesus in The Gospel According to Matthew- Visual Bible”.

The Book of Matthew is the script for the movie. When Bruce was recalling his preparation to do the scene where Jesus is going to the cross he said,

“Yes, Jesus was the one in charge that day- not Pilate nor the Pharisees nor anyone else for that matter- it was Jesus! Those guys thought they had Him, but HE HAD THEM- reacting frame for frame just as He wanted so He’s be sure to end up exactly where He needed to be- THE CROSS.

It is so vital a thing for us all to grasp: Jesus wasn’t forced to the cross- He CHOSE the cross. And on that day, the most awful of days, He wasn’t dragged to the cross. He was CRAWLING to the cross. His battered body was giving out on Him; He had a little life remaining in Him; yet He had to make it to the cross.

Fighting against the pain, struggling, clawing groping, crawling with everything He had- One more step, one more step… almost there… one more… made it!- and the hammer drops.”

Conclusion

Jesus chose to die for you and me so that we could be reconciled with him in heaven. Because He did all that for me, how can I not trust Him in the midst of whatever test or trial I am facing?

So, we always have a choice with our reactions. And, as stated in 1 Corinthians 10: 13, each test is an opportunity to show God our faithfulness to Him and trust in Him.

So, how will you react with your next test? With doubt or in faith and trust?
