The Bible tells us often not to fear or “do not be afraid”. However, that’s hard to do when you feel like your whole world is falling apart. We’ve all been through a lot this past year and a half with the pandemic. The news is filled with shootings, violence, and unrest.

However, it doesn’t matter how bad it looks on the outside because God says we don’t have to be afraid. It’s sometimes hard to believe that God is with you or loves you. But, He does. More than we could ever imagine.

Do Not Be Afraid

Psalm 91:4-7 paints a beautiful picture of how God protects us. It says:

“He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall find protection: His faithfulness shall be your shield and wall. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day; nor of the pestilence that pursues in darkness, nor of the destruction that strikes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you.”

No Guarantee

Life can be pretty scary these days and can easily be overwhelming. However, no matter what you are going through right now, God is right there ready to cover you and protect you against anything that comes your way.

That doesn’t guarantee a perfect life free of pain or obstacles. But, it does mean that He will be with you through it all and will carry you when you can’t go on anymore.

Poem- Hard Times

The poem below called “Hard Times” is one I wrote several years ago when I was going through a difficult and scary time.

Thank you Lord for hard times
As well as good
For when things are hard
I grow deeper in faith
When things are hard or painful
Then I am made stronger
Those are the times
When I look outside myself
For answers
It’s when life is confusing
That you provide clarity
When all seems hopeless
That you give us hope
When I’m scared and afraid
You fill me with faith
When I have no answers
And don’t understand
Your Word gives me wisdom
Your Holy Spirit helps me see.
When I feel all alone
You are always there-
Comforting me
When I think I can’t
Go on any more
You lift me up on wings like eagles
And give me strength
I never knew I had.

Summary

As scary as life is sometimes, He will never leave us nor forsake us. When He tells us “do not be afraid”, we can trust Him because He is faithful and true.

None of us can step into the full and wonderful plans that God has for us if we let fear take control. I find that if I take my eyes off of myself and put them back on Him, I can get through almost anything.
