Do you have a solid foundation? Maybe your wondering what I mean by that. Let me explain.
A Little History
Over the last few months, I’ve had a lot of problems with histamine intolerance causing my eyelids to become beat red, itchy and dry. It’s been a journey just trying to discover the cause and then the solution. It’s been a very rough journey. Last year, I was tested for allergies and that wasn’t the problem when this problem flared up for the first time.
Apparently, histamine intolerance isn’t very well known. I actually stumbled across it accidentally. Although I know that nothing is really an accident. God knows all things and nothing surprises Him
Anyway, to make a long story short, as I am writing this today my eyes are now almost 100% better.
I had to fix my foundation- my gut health. We all have an enzyme in our body called Diamine Oxide and if it doesn’t function properly then your body isn’t able to break down histamines which can be manifested in many different ways. In my case, it was itchy, watery, red eyes and eyelids.
The good new is that this can be fixed. While my eyes are now almost better, thank God, there is still a journey ahead. I have to continue to rebuild my gut health with the right low histamine foods, vitamins and nutrients. If you don’t have the right gut health, everything else will collapse leading to health problems, the inability to lose weight, etc.
Our Solid Foundation in Christ
This reminds me our foundation in Christ. If we don’t have a solid foundation in our relationship with Christ, how can we build anything?
Check out Matthew 7: 24-27 NIV:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
Matthew 7:24-27 NIV
It we don’t build our lives on a solid foundation- Jesus, then all else will fail. Eventually, it will all come crashing in. Jesus is the light of this world. He laid its’ foundations, created time, separated day from night. He created us!
We all have a tendency to put our wants, desires and needs first. But if we put Him first, He promises to give us everything else as well.

So, just like I have to now eat very specific foods to rebuild my gut health so that I can manage and heal my low histamine intolerance, we also have to put Jesus first so that we be healthy spiritually.
How Do We Build A Solid Foundation?
By spending time with Him and putting Him first. I’m not talking legalistic things like you have to go to church or you have to tithe 10%. Those are great things. However, God is after your heart. He is our loving Father and He wants to spend time with you and with me.
So, here are some ways that I am learning to put Him first:
Take time to worship every day.
For me, worship helps me release all that stress, worry and frustration that has built up in me and, instead, to focus what’s most important-on just loving the One who loves me unconditionally.
Pray
Pour out your heart to him. He will listen. And, then take time to listen for Him. He wants to love you and lead you.
While I am working
Often while I am working, I will talk to Him. He gives me strength when I am having a bad day, comforts me, celebrates with me when things are good.
In Creative Endeavors
Art, photography and writing.
The biggest area that I have been able to learn to listen and hear his voice and see his leading is in learning to write poetry, my books, and this email.
Also, in learning things like photography and painting it’s learning to hear his voice in different ways.
Don’t be afraid to try something new. Maybe something you’ve always wanted to do but have been afraid or just haven’t made the time.
In My Diet & Health
As we speak, He is helping me in my journey to renewed health. He gives me the strength to stick to the plan and to overcome my food temptations.
In fact, once about a month I prayed for his help. I’ve been trying to lose weight. However, I work in a bakery part time and there are all kinds of delicious temptations available to me.
I got an immediate word in my Spirit:
“Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4
God definitely has a sense of humor!
In My Relationship With My Husband
God is at the center of the relationship I have with my husband. I never expected to get married. But, when I was 41 years old, God sent me my wonderful husband, John. Neither of us was looking. But, God brought us together and has been at the center for the last 14 years.
Conclusion
The more time I spend with Him, not only telling Him about my needs, but learning to listen for his voice, the better I am able to discern his voice. God wants to be a part of every aspect of our lives.
There is no limit to what He can do in you and through you as you build your life on His solid foundation and invite Him into every part of your life.
Have a blessed week.
