Do You Know How to Find Fulfillment in Life?

Do You Know How to Find Fulfillment in Life?

Today. I am asking the question “do you know how to find fulfillment in life?” This is part 2 of 3 in the series “How to Change Your False Beliefs and Find Your Joy”.

In this series, we are redefining certain key concepts that are important if we are to be truly happy and find our purpose in life.

Key Concepts

These key concepts include:

  1. SUCCESS
  2. SIGNIFICANCE
  3. FULFILLMENT
  4. SATISFACTION
  5. HAPPINESS
  6. FUN
  7. SECURITY
  8. PEACE

Last week we talked about Success and Significance and you can read that post here.

Today, we will be examining fulfillment in life, satisfaction and happiness. Part 3 will cover the last three concepts of fun, security and peace.

It’s amazing to me how we throw these words all the time, but how many of us actually stop to define them and ask ourselves what we actually mean by them.

Have you ever said to yourself:

“I just want to be fulfilled.”

“I want to be satisfied”

“I want to be happy”

But, have you ever asked yourself what it will take to find fulfillment in life, to feel satisfied or to be happy?

Let’s take a look.

Fulfillment in Life

So often, we think that if I just reach that next goal or milestone, I’ll be fulfilled. But, Neil Anderson in his book Victory Over Darkness” defines fulfillment in this way:

“Fulfillment is discovering your own uniqueness in Christ and using our gifts and talents to edify others and to glorify the Lord.”

He also says,

“God has a unique place of ministry for each of us. It is important to your sense of fulfillment that you realize your calling in life. The key is to discover the roles you occupy in which you cannot be replaced, and then decide to be what God wants you to be in those roles.”

For example, you are the only one who knows your husband as you do or your coworkers or neighbors.

We all have a special set of skills, talents and spiritual giftings. Sit down with God and with a pen and piece of paper and write those down.

Do a deep dive and see just how special God created you to be.

Satisfaction in Life

Satisfaction is all about QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. It’s all about doing a few things well rather than a whole lot of things arbitrarily or carelessly.
True satisfaction comes from living righteously as well as QUALITY of our relationships, services and work.

You can have a lot of relationships that you don’t invest much time in. Or, you can have a few really close friends that you know you can trust when you really need them because you invested in them.

You can have an okay product in your business that sells but only gets average reviews. Or, you can truly invest in having a HIGH QUALITY PRODUCT that people love.

More is not necessarily better.

Are you spreading yourself too thin?

Are you just trying to get by?

Or, are you trying to live righteously?

Do you know how to find fulfillm

Happiness

How many of us focus on what we don’t have instead of what we already do have?

Ever heard the expression “the grass is always greener on the other side”?

Have you ever told yourself, “if I just lose 20 more pounds then I’ll be happy”

“If I just could pay off that credit card debt, then I’ll be happy”
“If I was just married I would be happier”

Fill in the blank- “if I just __ What?

Happiness is about being content with what you already have and in whatever circumstances you find yourself.

The apostle Paul said it well in Philippians 4:

“I do not speak because I have need, for I have learned in whatever state I am to be content. I know both how to face humble circumstances and how to have abundance. Everywhere and in all things I have learned the secret, both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things because of Christ who strengthens me.”

Philippians 4:11-13

If we are constantly looking to the next great person, thing, experience, etc. To make us happy, then we will never be happy.

Conclusion

The way we change our false beliefs and find joy is by redefining these key concepts in accordance with scriptures.

Finding fulfillment in life, satisfaction and happiness can happen when we look internally and to our Savior instead of to all the external stimuli such as more money, more status or trying to live up to someone else’s standards.

We need to change our way of thinking and renew our minds as well as our hearts. So, do you know how to find fulfillment in life? Are you satisfied and happy?

Next time, we will take a look at the final 3 key concepts of fun, security and peace.
