Do you know who you are? Do you know who God created you to be? What is your self-worth based on? I used to base my self-worth and sense of identity on performance and pleasing others.
The problem is, when I didn’t perform, it would lead to depression and outbursts of anger. It made me feel like I wasn’t loved when I was criticized or didn’t live up to some unrealistic standard.
Jesus is the Foundation
However, when you based your identity on God’s Word and who he says you are, you have a solid foundation- Jesus. Jesus is the foundation and when you base your identity on Him you are secure, you are accepted, you are significant and you have a purpose. You belong to God.
God created you to be unique with an eternal purpose that is founded in Jesus. Everything in this world wi ll pass away, but Jesus is eternal. Our souls and spirits are eternal. And, the purpose for which He created us is eternal as well.
Created for a Purpose
It says in Psalms,
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”
Psalm 139:13-16 NIV
God is our creator and He knows everything about you because He formed you- from the color of your eyes to your parents, when you were born and the hopes and dreams He planted in your heart.
He knows everything that has ever happened to you or every will. He knows all the choices you’ve made whether good or bad.
Nothing is a surprise to Him.
Every day you live, God has a purpose for you.
Unconditional Love
He loves you unconditionally and you are secure in His love. There is nothing we can do to earn his love and acceptance. All we can do is accept it. His acceptance of us is not based on anything we could possibly do but everything He already did.
The only thing we have to do is accept it. You are a child of the Most High God.
Conclusion
Who could know us better than the one who created us? So, now, do you know who you are? It may seem hard to believe that we don’t have to earn his love and acceptance because we are so used to having to perform and live up to unrealistic standards, but it is true.
