“I Believe – No Matter What” is a powerful statement. The question is, what exactly is it that I believe? To say that, I must be very confident of what I am putting my faith in. And I am.

What Do I Believe?

First of all, I want to define the word “believe” and when I looked up the definition for it, I found that it meant:

“to accept something as true; feel sure of the truth.”

That’s exactly what I am, “sure of the truth”. I am sure of the truth of the gospel message. Also, I don’t care about denomination differences. I am simply sure without any doubt whatsoever that Jesus is the one and only Son of God. He was born of a virgin. He preached the good news while on earth, never sinning. Lived a perfect life. Died for our sins on the cross. And He rose again 3 days later, conquering death forever and providing a way for us to live with him in eternal paradise.

No Other Way Into Heaven

The good news doesn’t end there, however, because he is coming again. And when he does, you won’t be able to deny it because according to Revelation 1:7:

For those who don’t accept Jesus as their Savior, the news won’t be so good.

Jesus says in John 14:6 that

“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

There is no other way into heaven. Jesus makes that perfectly clear. He didn’t say that he knows the way or knows the truth but that he was “the way, the truth and the life”. That’s who he is.

Truth Doesn’t Change

The truth doesn’t change if you don’t believe it. For instance, you might think that you can fly like a bird and jump off a cliff to prove it, but that doesn’t change the law of gravity. You will still fall, no matter what you believe.

You can’t make something “more true” either. It either is or it isn’t true. You can’t add to it or take away from it.

He is the living word. He was with God before time began. Nothing was made without him.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”

John 1:1-5 NIV

How Can I Be So Certain?

How can I say “I believe – no matter what”? Isn’t that a bit arrogant or judgmental maybe? It isn’t arrogant or judgmental to speak the truth. I am simply confident that the Bible is true. It is God’s love story to us. It’s his truth. It’s his warning to us. He doesn’t want any of us to be lost. He wants us to live happy, healthy lives in fellowship with him.

The choice is ours to make though. He gave us free will. Just as we have the ability to choose right things, we also have the ability to choose wrong or evil things. But without that freedom, we would simply be robots.

C.S. Lewis and Lee Strobel are two people who tried to disprove the Bible and through the process became believers.

Jesus fulfilled many of the Old Testament prophecies about the coming Messiah and the ones he didn’t fulfill, will be fulfilled when he comes again. The odds of Jesus fulfilling even 8 of the over 60 different Old Testament prophecies is about one in one hundred quadrillion or 100,000,000,000,000,000 according to Peter Stoner in Science Speaks.

Also, there were over 500 different witnesses to his resurrection. Jesus made it very clear who he was.

What About the Bad Stuff?

No matter what happens in this life, it is only temporary. When things got hard and I lost my father to cancer, or I had financial problems or things didn’t go my way, the one thing that got me through was knowing that God was going through it with me.

God is walking beside me. He is leading me and guiding me.

God can take my anger, my hurt, my pain and turn it all around into something good. I usually can’t see how at the time, but I take him at his Word because he is faithful to fulfill all of His promises.

When I look back on my life, I can see how he has led me. I can see how one thing led to another and how things are interconnected.

Listen and Pray

I’m not a perfect Christian, I make mistakes. My life hasn’t been all peaches and cream. There have been many times when I wanted to throw in the towel, but that still small voice of God kept me going. This poem is one I wrote about that still small voice of God. Many times he is waiting for us to reach out to him for help. God can’t answer our prayers if we don’t pray.

If we can’t go to our Creator for help, who can we go to?  So now when I say “I believe – no matter what!”, you can see what I mean- an unshakeable faith in Almighty God who gave up everything for me. His one and only Son, dying in my place so that I don’t have to.

Whispers

Whispers in the night
The whistling of the wind
A silent nudge
Instinct, perhaps an inkling
Go this way, not that
A dream maybe?
The sound of a bubbling brook,
The rushing of a river or
The roar of the ocean
Can you hear it?
What is it?
Listen closely-
You don't want to miss it.
It's God.
He's calling you.

Conclusion

It’s sometimes hard to pick his voice out from all the others that we hear all day long. It takes practice and knowing his Word. He is Holy and He is Righteous. God fulfills all of His promises. He created the universe and he created you and me.

Giving me and you the ultimate gift- himself. The more I think about the gospel message of salvation, the more humbled I become.   Anything I have to go through in this life will never compare to what he has already done for me. So now I believe – no matter what!
