My Purpose in Jesus and Yours

My Purpose in Jesus and Yours

Today I want to talk about my purpose in Jesus and yours. When Adam and Eve first sinned in the Garden of Eden, we were separated from God. However, when Jesus came and died on the cross for us, he provided a way for that relationship to be restored.

He provided a solution for the problem of sin. We just have to believe it and accept Him into our own hearts. It is through Jesus that we have our identity and our purpose. Our purpose is two-fold.

My Purpose in Jesus

First, Jesus says,

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it. You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”

Matthew 22:37-40 MEV

Our First and Greatest Purpose

This verse says two very important things.

Our first purpose is to love God with our whole heart, soul, and mind. This is the most important thing we can do.

The question I sometimes have is “how?”

The answer is by spending time with Him like your best friend in praise and worship, prayer, and in His Word. He wants to be a part of our lives. He wants to lead us and guide us. And He wants us to know who He created us to be and for the purpose for our lives to be accomplished. That can only be done by getting to know Him.

Our Second Purpose

The second part of that verse says that we are to love each other the same way we love ourselves. It seems pretty simple, but it’s each for life and our long “to do” lists to get in the way.

Really, all we have to do is share the love of God with whoever God puts in our path. To be nice, put a smile on our face, engage with others. Perhaps, you could provide a meal for someone in need. In this crazy world, a smile and a kind word go a long way, especially when someone is going through a hard time. You never know how far those kind words will go or that smile.

Our Specific Purpose

Next, we have a purpose that is directly tied to how God made us.

As it says in Psalms,

“You brought my inner parts into being; You wove me in my mother’s womb.”

Psalms 139:13 MEV

From the color of our hair to our parents, where and when we were born, God has a purpose. This also includes our hopes and dreams, spiritual blessings, skills, abilities, talents and more. God was very specific in how He made us. Nothing is an accident. He has a purpose for your life that is tied to how He made you.

He wants you to be a light for the Kingdom of God right where you are at using those skills, talents, spiritual gifts that He put deep within you from the very beginning.

Conclusion

What are your hope and dreams? Have you let the stresses of life drown them out?

Let God reignite those hopes and dreams. It is never too late as long on you are still here. Ask yourself, “what is my purpose in Jesus?” Search deep within and let God speak to you.

God created us the way we are for a reason and that reason is to glorify God, Jesus through our lives. Ask yourself today, what can I do with God today?
