The authors below are my top three favorite authors when it comes to Christian fiction. As an author and writer, I love to read and wanted to share with you some of my favorite authors. Also, I included links for some of their books that I’ve especially enjoyed.
As an avid reader, I am always looking to dive into their latest books. Not only do I simply love to read a great story, but I also receive inspiration for my own writing.
I listed the following favorite authors in no particular order.
My Favorite Authors
Ted Dekker
If you are looking for a great thriller or suspense book, Ted Dekker’s books are fantastic. There is always a Christian theme of some kind in them but always have a great story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I find it very hard to put his books down once I start them.
One of my favorite Ted Dekker books is called “The Circle Series”. There are four different books in this series and they can be read in any order. The Circle Series follows the story of Thomas Hunter. After a bullet grazes his head, he wakes up in another world. When he falls asleep in one world, He wakes up in the other. Every choice he makes affects both worlds.
His Beyond the Circle Series was a follow-up to the original Circle Series and is comprised of two different books- The 49th Mystic and Rise of the Mystics. My original post about the Beyond the Circle Series is called In My Opinion of Ted Dekker.
His newest book is called Play Dead. I haven’t read it yet, but if it is like any of his other books, it will keep you riveted from page one. It was just released May of this year.
Book Description for Play Dead by Ted Dekker
Would you play the ultimate game of life? The discovery of two teenagers ritualistically murdered in a secluded Austin park outrages a nation already on the brink of tearing itself apart. The victims are the latest in an epidemic of deaths linked to a mysterious virtual game known only as PLAY DEAD.
The evidence points to Jamie Hamilton, a brilliant young man on the autism spectrum. But Angie Channing, a world-renown true crime writer, isn’t convinced he’s a killer.
Her obsession with the truth drives her into the world of Play Dead. But what she uncovers is a truth far too dangerous to be exposed. A truth those in power protect at all costs. How far will she go to bring the truth to light?

Terri Blackstock
Terri Blackstock is fantastic at writing great mystery and suspense novels that have a strong faith element at their core. I’ve read a lot of her books including the Newpoint 911 Series and The Restoration Series which is one of my favorites.
In the Restoration Series, all power and communications worldwide are shutdown for an extended period of time. The story follows the lives of the Branning family in Birmingham, Alabama as they try to live their lives without any electricity or modern conveniences like electricity, cell phones, etc. The story takes place over the course of four different books.
Book Description for Last Light
The first installment in a thrilling series in which a global catastrophe puts a family’s survival at risk—and both reveals the darkness in human hearts and lights the way to restoration.
Birmingham, Alabama, has lost all power. Its streets are jammed with cars that won’t start and its airport is engulfed in flames from burning planes. All communications—cell phones, computers, even radios—are silent. Every home and business is dark. Is it a natural disaster, a terrorist attack, or something far worse?
In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to a time before electricity, the Branning family faces a choice. Will they hoard their possessions in order to survive—or trust God to provide as they share their resources with those around them? Yesterday’s world is gone. Family and community are all that remain. And the outage is revealing the worst in some.
Desperation can be dangerous—especially when a killer lives among them.

- True Light- The Restoration Series book 3

The book I just finished reading and thoroughly enjoyed was Smokescreen. The characters are real people with flaws that we all can relate to. Smokescreen brings together two people who have to deal with their past in order to move forward in to their future. For me, it was a great story about learning to forgive as well as trusting God with our problems which can often seem insurmountable to us.
Book Description on Amazon for Smokescreen:
Nate Beckett has spent his life fighting wildfires instead of the lies and rumors that drove him from his Colorado hometown. His mother begs him to come back now that his father has been released from prison, but it isn’t until he’s sidelined by an injury that he’s forced to return and face his past. But that means facing Brenna too.
Fourteen years ago, Nate was in love with the preacher’s daughter. When Pastor Strickland discovered Brenna defied him to sneak out with Nate, the fight between Strickland and Nate’s drunken dad was loud—and very public. Strickland was found murdered later that night, and everyone accused Roy Beckett. When the church burned down not long after, people assumed Nate set the fire to get even for his father’s conviction. He let the rumors fly and left town without looking back.
Brenna is stunned to learn that the man convicted of murdering her father has been pardoned. The events of that night set her life on a bad course, and now she’s fighting a brutal custody battle with her ex and his new wife where he’s using lies and his family’s money to sway the judge. Brenna is barely hanging on, and she’s turned to alcohol to cope. Shame and fear consume her.
As Nate and Brenna deal with the present—including new information about that fateful night and a wildfire that’s threatening their town—the past keeps igniting. Nate is the steady force Brenna has so desperately needed. But she’ll have to learn to trust him again first.

Davis Bunn
Davis Bunn writes in a variety of different genres including political fiction and historical fiction and romance. Sometimes in conjunction with other authors like Janette Oke in their Song of Acadia Series or Larry Burkett in their book Kingdom Come
His political fiction books are great page turners with their plots focused on good vs. evil. Some of my favorites have been The Presence and The Great Divide.
Currently, I am reading his Miramar Bay Series. It is a compilation of five different books each of which takes place on a lake or along the coast by some body of water. They are modern-day Christian romances with characters that struggle with real-life issues of faith. Also, each book is a stand-alone.
The first book, Miramar Bay, is a heartwarming romance about God bringing together two different people who are trying to start over in their lives. It is an easy, light read and it’s easy to connect with the characters. Additionally, it will lift your spirits.
