Our Citizenship is in Heaven

Our Citizenship is in heaven

We are God’s children and our citizenship is in heaven. This world is not our true home. I thank God that he has prepared a new, better, and glorious home for me.

It says in the book of Philippians,

“But our citizenship is in heaven, from where also we await for our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, will transform our body of humiliation, so that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working of His power even to subdue all things to Himself.”

Philippians 3-20-21 MEV

Heaven is My True Home

Let’s break this down a little bit.

First, I thank God that this is not my true home, heaven is. This world is only temporary.

For me, when things get hard, it’s good to remind myself of this. It gives me hope and peace to know that all things will work for good (Romans 8:28) and that He has everything under his control. It doesn’t always seem like it. However, it is true. God has a plan and His purposes will be fulfilled.

A New Body

Secondly, this verse says he “will transform our body of humiliation, so that it may be transformed to His glorious body,”

One day, all my aches and pains, every physical ailment will be healed and will go away when He transforms me. How marvelous. No matter what physical pains, injuries, or ailments you have, your body will be made new and perfect by Jesus when He calls us home.

Only Jesus will still have his scars from the cross. The nail scars in his feet and hands will be a reminder of His great love for us eternally.

God is in Control and Has a Plan

Thirdly, this verse says that he “will subdue all things to himself.”

It gives me peace to know that He will bring all things under His control. All things are subject to him. No matter what it looks like- He has a plan, loves us, has redeemed us, and is coming back for us in His perfect time.

All the wars, evil, and bad things that happen in our world today will be no more. Evil will be dealt with once and for all.

We will get to live forever in a perfect world with our loving Savior and Redeemer.

Conclusion

So take hope. He loves you and is coming back for you to take you home to be eternally with Him because our citizenship is in heaven not in this world.
