Psalm 23: 1-3- Rest in God

Psalm 23_ 1-3 Rest in God

Take some time and rest in God. Many of you are probably familiar with Psalm 23: 1-3. It is another one of my favorites because in reading it I am reminded that I can relax and just be with God as opposed to always having to be busy- which I have a strong tendency to do.

In our busy lives, we could all use a little more rest and peace and God is the source of both. He is the source life and all that is good.

Psalm 23: 1-3- Rest in God
Psalm 23: 1-3

I Shall Not Want

Let’s break these first few verses down a bit.

First, God is watching over me and will provide for all my needs.

It says that God “is my Shepherd: I shall not want”.

I don’t have to worry because if Jesus is my Lord, I can trust Him to provide for all my needs. Moreover, I can rest in God knowing that He is in control, loves me and only wants the best for me.

Most importantly, I know that no matter how things may look to me, God will always come through for me. He is the great Provider.

There are more times than I can recount where God came through for me right in the nick of time. He wasn’t early or late, but right on time. His timing is perfect.

He is My Shepherd

Secondly, I can rest in Him because He loves me and takes care of me.

The next part of Psalm 23 paints a beautiful picture of peace and rest. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters.”

I don’t know about you, but some of the most peaceful moments I have had are when I’ve been outdoors in nature camping by a river or a lake without any of our modern day electronic distractions.

In the same way, we can have that same peace when we let God lead and take time to just BE with Him, in His presence.

He Leads Me

Thirdly, He has rescued me from death and leads us in right paths. “He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”

Through Jesus, God has rescued us from sin and death. He shows us the right way to go and to live our lives.

When Jesus ascended to heaven after His resurrection, He promised to send us the Holy Spirit. It is through the Holy Spirit that He leads us, comforts us, and teaches us.

Conclusion

We can truly find our rest in God by taking time to just be with Him in worship, by reading His Word and in prayer. By taking time to just listen for His voice we can find true peace knowing that He is indeed our Shepherd and is watching out for us and will provide for our every need.
