The Holy Spirit is our Comforter. When we are struggling or have a big problem of some kind it’s easy to forget that we can look to God for our comfort as well as for direction, love, power and so much more.
After Jesus died for our sins and rose from the dead, He sent the Holy Spirit to us.
The Holy Spirit is Our Comforter
It says in the book of John
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”
John 14:26 KJV
It also says in 2 Corinthians,
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”
2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV
Be a Comfort to Others
God comforts us when we turn to Him and in turn, tells us to be a comfort to others.
I also find that when I can be a comfort to someone else or maybe put a smile on their face, it also helps me take my eyes off of my problems and helps my own attitude. By looking to the needs of others, it helps us to realize the many blessings we really have.
How Do We Receive His Comfort
God has provided us many tools which help us to hear the Holy Spirit and receive His Comfort
- Prayer
- Listening
- Praising Him
- Worshiping Him
- Reading His Word
- Devotional’s
- Prayer Journals
- Church
- Other Christians
These are only a few resources. Most importantly, I find that listening for His still small voice is the key. Turning off all of our distractions and finding a way to just quiet our racing hearts and minds.
Conclusion
So, when we let Him, the Holy Spirit is our comforter. He is always there right inside of us ready to comfort us, guide us and teach us. Take some time to get quiet and just listen.
