The peace of God is possible in the midst of whatever circumstances you are facing. Peace is actually the third fruit of the Holy Spirit and it is a gift from God.
The world we live in today is anything but peaceful. It is filled with violence and evil. It seems like every day, there is some new terrorist bombing or someone is getting shot. It’s on the news, the internet, social media, our city streets and even our churches. You can’t escape it.
However, you don’t have to let it reside in your hearts.
Peace Defined
According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, peace is defined as:
- A State of Tranquility or quiet
- Freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions
- Harmony in personal relations
The peace I am talking about can only come from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ by repenting of your sins and accepting his wonderful gift of salvation.
However, it doesn’t stop there. That is only the beginning.
It resides in your heart and your mind no matter how chaotic the world around you may be. It comes from the presence of the Holy Spirit and by pressing into Jesus in every situation.
Peace in the Midst of the Storm
Jesus said in the Book of John,
“Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27, MEV
It is so easy to rely on our own strength and wisdom before going to God. Usually, we end up going to God last, if at all. However, if we seek Him out first, I find it usually saves me from a lot of heartache and mistakes.
Going to God first also gives me that peace that passes understanding that can only come from the Holy Spirit and the presence of God.
When I begin to worry about the future, I turn to Him. When I worry about my family, I turn to him.
This life has so many things that can cause us stress, distract us and keep us from the most important thing we can do- develop our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Trust God and Do the Next Right Thing
My husband has a saying that I hold close to my heart:
“Trust God and do the next right thing.”
In the end, that’s all any of us can really do anyway. This world is temporary and the only thing that will last in this world is God Almighty and our souls.
In this world, there will be trials and tribulations of all kinds. Loved ones will die. Jobs will be lost. Injustice will happen. Hearts will be broken. This world will pass away. Our bodies will get weak and die. But our souls will live on- in one place or another.
Jesus has already overcome the world and I don’t believe that it will be long before He comes again.
“I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”

Help is On the Way
Toby Mac has a new song out called “Help is on the Way” which has been a great encouragement to me lately. It talks about how “God is rolling up his sleeves” and “Help is on the way it’s just around the corner.” It’s full of positive energy and faith.

Conclusion
No matter what you are going through, it is possible to have the peace of God, the third fruit of the Holy Spirit, in the midst of whatever circumstances you are facing by keeping your eyes on Him instead of on your problems. Life isn’t always easy, but God is always faithful.
