Have you ever heard the expression “When it rains it pours?” Well, that expression came to life for me this last week.
When It Rains It Pours
My husband and I moved, then immediately proceeded to get sick and on top of that I had ended up with a regularly recurring throbbing in my head behind my right ear for the next five days as a result of some nodules under my right shoulder blade.
It was more than a little trying and overwhelming.
The reason I mention this is because we all have something we are going through. Sometimes, it doesn’t seem like it will ever end. I have to admit, that it didn’t seem like the throbbing would ever end and I’m sure most of you understand how painful a throbbing around your ear can be. It did finally stop but there were moments when I didn’t know how I would get through it.
However I am getting through it and here are three key things that helped me to do so and I hope they will help you as well.
Never Lose Hope.
Whatever you are going through, may seem to be going on forever. It might seem like it will never end. But in Christ, there is always hope.
“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”
Psalm 62:5-6 NIV
He may not answer your prayers the way you would like him to or expect him to, but He will always answer. It is in Jesus, that we have our true rest no matter what else is going on.
Keep Your Eyes On Jesus
When life gets hard, you’re in pain or going through difficult circumstances, it’s easy to focus on the problem rather than the Solution- God. He has the answers to every problem or situation we could ever face. Nothing comes as a surprise to God.
Additionally, it seems to me, the more you focus on the problem the bigger it seems to get.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7
However, the more I focus on God, the more peace, joy, contentment seems to come my way. He gives me the strength and patience I need to endure when I need to because there are certainly times when I can’t do it on my own.
He Will Never Leave You
Oftentimes, it may seem like you are going through all your pain and trouble all alone, but you aren’t. He is right there by your side.
He promised in Hebrews 13:5b MEV “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
There are many times that it seemed like I would never survive my circumstances. I could never see how I could get through them. It felt like I was all alone.
It was in those very moments that He carried me- just like in the poem “Footprints” .

Conclusion
So while we all go through times where the expression “when it rains it pours” seems to be coming true in our lives. It is also true, that there is always a source of hope- Jesus. And, he will carry you.
