Who Do You Think You Are?

Who do you think you are

Who do you think you are? I mean, who do you believe you are deep down in your soul and spirit?

Last week I touched on the subject of our true identity or who does God say we are. Today I want to ask the question “Who do you think you are?”.

Who Do You Think You Are?

When someone asks you “Who are you?”, how do you answer that?

With your name? Your profession? Political affiliation? A mother or father? Single or married?

While these may be part of who you are, they don’t really begin to describe who you really are deep down in your soul and spirit.

Labels and Lies

We put labels on ourselves and so does the world based on external things like how we look, how much we weigh, how much money we have in the bank, our jobs, etc.

For too long I listened to these lies and let them dictate my self-confidence, the things I chose to pursue, and my self-image. I was afraid of what other people would think and afraid of failing so there are a lot of things that I never tried as a result. I was afraid of not being “perfect”.

I got news for you, it isn’t possible to be perfect in this life. And, the only opinion that is truly important is God’s and your own. However, in Christ “we are made perfect’ because of his sacrifice on the cross for our sins.

However, that is only the beginning. God has so much more in store for you. He loves you more than you could ever imagine.

Scriptures About Identity

Here are 10 scripture verses about who God created you to be:

“For You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.”

Psalm 139:13 NIV

“Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

Isaiah 46:4 NIV

“You did not choose Me, but I chose you, and appointed you, that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that the Father may give you whatever you ask Him in My name.”

John 15:16 MEV

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.”

Romans 8:1-2 MEV

“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”

Psalm 91:4-7 NIV

“Have not I commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9 MEV

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than He who is in the world.”

1 John 4:4 MEV

“Yet to all who received Him, He gave the power to become sons of God, to those who believed in His name, Who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

John 1:12-13 MEV

“He has told you, O man, what is good—and what does the Lord require of you, but to do justice and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”

Micah 6: 8 MEV

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

2 Corinthians 1: 3-4 NIV

He Has a Plan

God has a wonderful plan for your life. However you need to know who He created you to be first. How the world sees us and how we see ourselves is often very different from how God sees us. He wants a relationship with you. That’s part of the reason He created you in the first place. He wants to work in partnership with you and through you to accomplish His purpose for this world.

Conclusion

So the next time you ask yourself “who do you think you are?”, how will you answer? Does your view of yourself line up with who God says you are? If not, why not?
