Are You Having Fun? What is the Definition of Fun in the Bible?

Are you having fun in your life? Have you ever asked yourself “what is the definition of fun in the Bible?”

How often have you wanted to do something fun and then thought differently about it because of the need to “keep us appearances” around others, whether they be family, friends, people at church, etc.

If you are living to please others, you are not serving Christ as it says in Galatians 1: 10.

“For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.”

Galatians 1: 10 ESV

Reasons for Fun in the Bible

There are many reasons for fun in the Bible including:

  • Rejoicing and praising God for who He is and what He has already done for us.
  • Wedding celebrations
  • Awe and wonder at His creation- the earth, heavens, and us
  • That we belong to Him
  • Life itself is a gift and worthy of rejoicing
  • The people in our life
  • God’s blessings
  • His miracles

These are just a few from the Bible. I can also think about a lot of other reasons to rejoice and have fun.

He created each of us unique and special, don’t give that up by trying to blend in with society or other people. Or, even the church crowd.

I love going to church connecting with other believers, learning about God and worshiping Him. However, as I’m sure many of us have experienced at one time or another, they can be the most judgmental of all. Trying to dictate what is acceptable or not.

Are you having fun? Do you let others dictate how you can have fun? Don’t. Let yourself relax and have fun. Do something spontaneous. Rejoice in the Lord and the joy of the Lord be your strength.

So, What is the Definition of Fun in the Bible?
